Go Obama 08.

McCain will be a piece of cake compared to the Clintons.

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (2.00 / 1)

so, you're under the impression that McCain won't run Rezko or Jeremiah Wright commercials non-stop? Are you under the impression that McCain isn't going to run commericals pointing out that Obama has about 4 years full time experience as a legislature? Are you under the impression that McCain isn't going to point out that Obama has no executive experience or exposure to executive experience? Are you under the impression that McCain won't run commercials pointing out that Obama didn't manage to hold a single meeting of his one subcommittee that he chaired and that he's never traveled?

This is dangerous thinking you've got going here. McCain is going savage Obama on corruption, on inexperience and on racism.

If you think the Clintons - who have tremendous party loyalty have been tough - then you have no idea what you're in for.

This is the down side of the scorched earth accusations the Obama camp is spreading around. His partisans have no idea how ugly it's going to get if he's the nominee.

If you think the Clintons - who have tremendous party

Yup. That's just what I think every time they talk about what a swell moderate McCain is.

Because there's no ammunition against the Clintons. The actual facts beg to differ.

the Clintons - who have tremendous party loyalty

and having a dozen or so fundraisers blackmail Nancy Pelosi--threatening the Congressional majority if they don't get their way-- "tremendous party loyalty". And more concerned for the country than their own ambitions and appetites too!

Why didn't you include PA, OH, FL? They were right there on the side bar.

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

I did all the polls released in the last week. Some polls may have been released earlier, but I didn't include them, regardless of which candidate they favored. Didn't even look at them to be honest.

Also, the Michigan numbers - bit dishonest dont you think?

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

dishonest? These are from polls doing General election matchups. Not primaries.

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

They are both at 42 in Michigan, the only different is that there are more undecideds in a McCain/Obama match-up

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

That's fair. I just applied one way of interpreting the data. Measuring the gap. You make a good point, and it's a good reason to evaluate the data under what I wrote. But I think my general point stands.

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

Oh come on, you can do better than this. At least try to put these numbers in context of the electoral vote. Of course then what argument you have goes out the window.

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

Ok, let's assume that Hillary and Obama roughly get what Kerry got- as a starting point for discussion - from there I think Hillary competes better in Ohio, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. I think bama does better in Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, and Virginia.

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

I would imagine you're going to get people wondering where the states are that Hillary wins...you know, sort of a comparison thing...probably include something about electoral votes.  I saw a really interesting diary on DK (yes, Clinton supporters, it is really Obama-flavored over there, but they do still have some great diaries).

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/3 /31/91747/5639

I'm not sure if linking to a DK diary is kosher around here (apologies if it's something that one just doesn't do), but it's a pretty good breakdown of the electoral college situation presently (which will likely have little to do with reality in November).  Both dems would lose to McCain if the race were today, though while Clinton has more electoral votes, Obama puts more states into play.  I have to imagine that once we choose a candidate, McCain's support will fall because we'll be comparing a republican and a democrat (read: last 8 years vs almost anything else).

This map shows a pretty compelling piece of Obama-is-a-better-general-election-candi date evidence. Clinton does have very entrenched support, but she also has very entrenched opposition.  Either candidate will have work to do after the nomination, but it appears that Obama will be in better shape to do it.

John McCain is surprisingly bad for this country

Re: Obama Is The Better GE Candidate (none / 0)

Another interesting point is that these polls reinforce how which states you won in the primaries bears little effect on your chances in the general. The one state Clinton performs better in is one she lost in the primary- Missouri. Meanwhile Obama does better in NJ, Cali, Nevada- all Clinton primary states.
